OpenBot vs Grok Bot: Self-Hosted AI Coworkers for Your Business

Grok Bot from xAI gives each person a team of always-on AI coworkers. Each Bot works on a persistent cloud computer, signs in to your tools and keeps going in the background until the job is done.

OpenBot gives your company self-hosted AI coworkers that run on your own servers. Your teams reach them in Slack, Microsoft Teams and the OpenBot app, and they connect to the tools you already use.

OpenBot is fully customizable and works with any agent harness and any model. It keeps learning from how your teams work, and with OpenBot for Business, our engineers set it up under your brand, with company sign-in, central controls, dedicated support and more.

For a business, the choice comes down to three things: who owns the AI coworkers and the data behind them, how far you can customize them, and whether your own agents and models can power them.

What is Grok Bot

Grok Bot is an agentic product from xAI. Each Bot works on a persistent cloud computer, uses the apps a member signs it into, and asks for approval before sensitive actions. Teams can share one Bot in Slack, and members reach their Bots from desktop, iOS and Android.

Where it runs is the main limit for many companies. Grok Bot runs only on Cursor-hosted cloud computers, which run in the United States today, and on-premises deployment is "not supported today". All of a member's Bots share one computer, and Cursor manages which models they use.

What is OpenBot for Business

Over the past few months, we open-sourced our own versions of the big AI coworker products, including OpenBot for Grok Bot. OpenBot for Business turns that core into one business-ready product for companies that want AI coworkers on their own terms.

Your teams share AI coworkers that use your apps, finish real work and get better the more they're used. Each coworker can get its own computer and follows the rules your IT team writes.

Our forward deployed engineers:

  • Deploy OpenBot on your servers, from a single machine to Kubernetes on EKS, AKS or GKE
  • Make it look like your own product, with your branding and your coworkers
  • Build your first AI coworker with you and provide dedicated support as your team grows

Grok Bot vs OpenBot at a glance

Both give your team AI coworkers that sign in to your tools and finish work on their own. The differences show up in where they run, who controls them and how much of the stack you can change.

  1. Where it runs
    • Grok Bot: only on Cursor-hosted cloud computers in the US
    • OpenBot: on your own servers, from one machine with Docker to Kubernetes with Helm
  2. Computers
    • Grok Bot: one cloud computer per member (a Firecracker microVM), shared by all of their Bots
    • OpenBot: each AI coworker can get its own computer, with its own browser, files and logins
  3. Data
    • Grok Bot: stored on Cursor's side, with no per-organization retention policy. Privacy Mode keeps it out of training
    • OpenBot: files and stored credentials stay on your servers, and every action is recorded in an audit trail
  4. What it learns
    • Grok Bot: Bots learn routines and preferences as they work
    • OpenBot: every approved skill is a plain SKILL.md file you can download with the CLI
  5. Models
    • Grok Bot: Cursor manages model selection, with no customer-facing model picker
    • OpenBot: you pick OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, or local models through any OpenAI-compatible server
  6. Your own agents
    • Grok Bot: Bots run on Grok Bot's own agent
    • OpenBot: any agent that speaks AG-UI (Agent-User Interaction Protocol) joins as a coworker, built with LangGraph, Google ADK, CrewAI, Mastra, Microsoft Agent Framework and more
  7. Sign-in
    • Grok Bot: SAML SSO through Cursor accounts and SCIM 2.0, on Enterprise
    • OpenBot: Google, Microsoft, Okta, SAML and OIDC sign-in, plus SCIM 2.0
  8. Control and audit
    • Grok Bot: audit logs for admin and Bot events, network controls, and Action Recording that's off by default, on Enterprise
    • OpenBot: every action is checked against your rules before it runs, and every decision is recorded, allowed or refused
    • Both stream events to your SIEM over OpenTelemetry
  9. Brand and setup
    • Grok Bot: xAI's product, with its own branding
    • OpenBot: set up by our engineers to look like your own product

OpenBot's AI coworkers learn from your teams

OpenBot’s AI coworkers keep getting better from the work your teams already do.

With the OpenBot Recorder, your team can show a coworker a task once in the browser, and OpenBot learns and repeats it. Admins manage learning centrally, and each coworker learns in its own container.

With Automatic Learning in CopilotKit Intelligence, OpenBot also reads your coworkers’ finished threads, finds the patterns and proposes each insight as a skill. Every skill is a SKILL.md your team reviews, and it reaches your coworkers only after a person approves it.

Google Antigravity is now AG-UI CompatibleGoogle Antigravity is now AG-UI compatible, so any Antigravity agent can run inside your app with CopilotKit. Antigravity is Google’s agent SDK, giving your code the same agent harness powering Google’s products. The ag-ui-antigravity integration streams every step the agent takes to your frontend, with generative UI including A2UI, human-in-the-loop approvals, shared state, frontend tools, attachments, and live rendering for Antigravity’s built-in file and shell tools. How to build a Google Antigravity Agent That Fixes Failing CI with CopilotKitGoogle Antigravity brings Google’s own agent harness to your code, with built-in tools to read files, run commands and edit code. In this tutorial, we use the new Antigravity AG-UI SDK and CopilotKit to build a debugging agent that finds why CI is failing, fixes it and proves the fix. The agent gets its own CI tools, approvals you can switch to auto-approve, and test results rendered as generative UI with A2UI. Every conversation is saved in CopilotKit Intelligence, and the whole app deploys to Google Cloud.
